What didn't you do because you were a JW that you now regret?
by jwfacts ini just bought a bottle of wine for an exjw's 30th that i am about to run off to.
on it there was a great quote by mark twain:.
"twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do... explore.

This is exactly what I am trying to do now, analyze the emptiness. Madame Q I would love to meet you one day! You are one cool lady and I love the way you think and your approach to life - truly intrepid.
Thank you, Crumpet. You flatter me too much. My approach to life is far from perfect. I mostly bumble through it all, hit or miss. If there is any intrepidness about me, it is the result of bitter experience, probably not innate intelligence.
"Intrepid"? Ha ha! Are you sure you did not mean "insipid"? Maybe one day we can meet, and you'll see how empty my glass really is?! If you're ever in North Carolina, give me a PM!
I hope you do not get lost analyzing the emptiness, Crumpet. I'm sure you won't! Judging from your posts, you seem to have filled your life with meaning and joy. Hope you continue to do so!

Welcome, Dave! That's definitely a sad story! Glad you are here and can laugh a bit:
"blow smoke in the elders' face while puking Absolut on his shoes."
I'm sure that does happen from time to time . . .nice to meet you!

she left me today......
by theinfamousone ini went out to see my sister and my mom... when i got back she said she was leaving... when i asked why, she said she was weirded out by my lack of trust.... i couldnt trust her,, so i hid things... its not her fault, its not like i was lying or anything, but i mean some shit, i just didnt tell her... i am so used to being called names, lectured and torn apart for being 100% honest, that now, i still am scared to let anyone completely in... now the best thing that ever happened to me is gone... she left and im not sure shes ever coming back... and iom not sure who to blame.. i mean its obviously my fault, but did the borg put a fear of trusting into my heart and soul?
i guess i cant blame anyone but myself... but at this point, im so torn and hurt that im not sure what to do... all i know is that what was finally having the semblance of family to me is now gone... the first time i was able to live with someone and love someone, albeiut with an ingrained sense of distrust, has disappeared, probably never to return..... .
this has broken me, i don't know what i will be doing with myself for the next couple of days... i feel almost dead inside... the infamous one.

If you're really serious about getting her back, then you ought to initiate some kind of couples' counselling; but only if she feels this would be productive for you both. Sometimes an outside, objective party can help. After all, you may not be the only one in the relationship with "issues." I truly hope you can work it out with each other. If you can't, then you both have to move on and try to understand and forgive yourselves and each other of any mistakes . . . easy to say, hard to do. I wish you the best. Sorry to hear about this!

Were you ever a victim of slander?
by Fleshybirdfodder inseems a dear brother was under the impression i had slighted him somehow (to this day i still have no idea what i did), and moved to the city telling everyone about strange masturbatory practices i partook in.
i have no problem admitting i'm an active participant of wining, dining and self seduction, but the things he cooked up in his head were disgusting (even to a perv like me .

What xjw hasn't been slandered? After all, isn't claiming that someone you know is under Satan's influence slander? How can it possibly be proven in a civil court that we are in fact under Satan's influence? And that's just the fluff argument . . .

That's a great concept, kerj! Thanks for sharing it here. I like to support things like that when I can. $25 can definitely make a difference to anyone in a crisis - even if it doesn't totally repair a broken life, it can help ease suffering; and in some cases save a life. It's a lot more money in many other places than it is here.

How long did it take for the elders to "give up" on you ?
by JH inwhen i became inactive years ago, the elders tried to visit me and talk to me, but i was able to nutralize their efforts and never answered the door or their phone calls.
i just didn't want to talk to them.. then it didn't take long for them to give up.
aftrer that, maybe once a year, they invited me to the memorial.

It took my mother a little bit longer to appear to give up on me than it took my father and the other elders. I guess my mom was more of a control freak than my dad. Maybe between 2 and 5 years?
Hard to say, as I can't get inside their heads, but I'm guessing that by the way they shunned pretty consistently within the first 2 years that they had indeed given up . . . who knows? If they were praying for me and maybe still are, how would I really know if they ever gave up, really?
It took me a hell of a lot longer to give up on them ever leaving the cult - maybe 25 some years? Oh well.
